Blanka Vlašić is heading to Beijing where she will participate in this year’s World Championship in athletics. Even though she pulled out of all competitions since this year’s Diamond League in New York, Blanka is very optimistic:
“After the competition in New York, my team and I knew we didn’t have much time for my injury to heal completely, and in order to be able to participate in the world championship we had to balance between rehabilitation and development trainings. This entire period was extremely challenging and the fact that I am going to Beijing is already a big win for me. I know we did the very best we could considering the circumstances and that is why I am returning to the Bird’s nest calm and collected”, Blanka said just before departure.
Blanka already has two gold medals from the World championships – Osaka 2007 and Berlin 2009 and one silver from Daegu 2011 and she is still the most successful high jumper in history of athletic world championships. She won silver medal in the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing at the 2008 Olympics.
Qualification rounds are scheduled for August 27th while the finals will be held on August 29th.
